My clients charge me with finding the "diamonds in the rough". Sometimes it's a struggle because of the gap between what they actually need vs what they really want. But when it's clear, I pull out all the stops. Below is an example of one of the candidates in my quiet expansive database of talent. Todd in Columbus has had a successful career run. He has been a 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 for beverage company where he confidently lead teams, managed a budget of $250 million dollars, and impressed his employers by developing new Shipping template that reduced staff cost by half and increased accuracy of overall production. But that's not it. When he was ready for a change, he took his talents to a small, family run company to be the 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐟 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐟𝐟 to the CEO, with both he and the CEO not even knowing what that position would look like. See, the company was trying to figure how to grow, and he counseled the CEO and guided the growth process as his right hand. He took the skills learned at previous jobs and convinced his boss to let him spin his magic. He went from managing local operations of the business, to managing global operations when the CEO got them into new markets. He developed new operational procedures to automate 3 Supply Warehouses in order to increase productivity. He was able to merge the company's operations and inventory systems through 𝟖 𝐀𝐜𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝟒 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬!! He was able to all this and more because he convinced the head of a small family run business to take a chance on him even at a pay cut. Moral of the story, invest in great talent. Give value in your expert book. Don't hold back. Present the information to clearly define the outcomes you provide. Show your audience why they need it. And then give it to them. Clients will take in all that information but still want to work with you. Most people can't learn from just reading. It's time to dust off those notes you've filed away and plan your book to build your authority. If you don't feel you have the time to put it together, I can help with that, too. As a storytelling evangelist, I am guided by my faith in the power of story. I 100 percent believe that storytelling will save the world, because when you really break it down, storytelling is what ruined the world. You know what I mean, false narratives. The reason I work so hard to help BIPoC writers, women writers in particular, get their stories into the world, is because they have been silenced and sidelined for so long, we're operating as a society with misinformation and misguided ideals. But we can do better. We can start over. We can course correct with new narratives. New stories. Snow white can be brown. Black magic is good. Women are born warriors. Witches are wise. There is enough for everyone to share. War is not the only way. Cognitive bias is the way that the human brain conserves energy. We create mental models that reflect previous experience, but once a certain critical level of experience is reached (as a guess in your early teens), then the model reaches a sufficient degree of saturation that the cost of changing it goes up. Cognitive dissonance occurs when the model no longer reflects the state of reality, and in some cases this can lead to severe psychosis. This is part of the reason that we tend to surround ourselves with our preferred in-group because the perceptions that we have are mirrored in others around us, even if they do not map to the overall population. Careful thought can be as energy-intensive as physical labour. Especially as we get older, most people prefer not to tax their brains, and they can actually become quite content with cognitive dissonance because it reinforces the belief that the rest of the world is "wrong". You see this a lot in both conservative and fundamentalist thought patterns (progressives have their own selective biases, mind you, but most tend to focus primarily upon righting perceived wrongs, real or imagined). The con artist plays upon such biases, even ones that have become tropes (e.g., FOMO), fear of the outgroup, and so forth. Indeed, one can define marketing as the weaponization of the seven deadly sins.

You don't have to appear pushy to ask for the sale. Use the natural gifts of relationship building you possess to understand the needs of your prospect. Then deliver your solution in a language they understand. It took me some time to understand that people receive information through filters. You can easily speak through that and maintain your authenticity. Building relationships should be resulting in referrals and sales. Find out how to make that happen for you.
